Is the Kippa app still working?
No — and it has not been for some time. The Kippa bookkeeping app has been unreachable since January 2024, and as of 26 August 2026 the company's website does not load and the Android listing has been removed.
If you are here because your book stopped opening, you are not the only one, and nothing you did caused it. Here is what can actually be shown, with the dates and the sources, and then what we would do in your position.
What is known
In October 2023 Kippa closed KippaPay, its agency-banking product, and laid off around 40 people. In December 2023 that product's operations were passed to another company. In January 2024 Kippa announced a move into a different business entirely, teaching through messaging apps.
In February 2024 TechCabal reported that the bookkeeping app itself had been inaccessible since the start of that year, and that roughly 500,000 merchants could not reach their debtor lists, their stock or their transaction history. Users in a support group had been waiting about a month without a reply.
We checked again on 26 August 2026, by hand. The address kippa.africa does not respond. The app and blog subdomains do not resolve at all. The Google Play listing returns a not-found page, and a search of the Nigerian App Store returns nothing.
What we are not saying
We are not saying Kippa has shut down. No such announcement has been made by the company and no outlet has reported one, so it is not ours to declare — we can only tell you what the product does today, which is nothing. If that changes, this page changes.

Can you get your records back?
Probably not through the app, and we would not want to promise otherwise. If you exported anything to a spreadsheet while it was running, that file is still yours and is the best starting point. If you did not, the practical answer is the one shopkeepers have always used: your customers know what they owe, and most will tell you honestly if you ask within the week.

Starting again, in one evening
- Write down who owes you, before anything elseThis is the part that decays. Go through your customers while it is fresh and enter each name and amount. Everything else can wait; this cannot.
- Close tonight's bookEnter what you took and what you spent today. Two numbers. That single entry is what makes the app worth opening tomorrow.
- Put in your stock roughly, not exactlyGroups first — drinks, provisions, sachet water. Exact counts per item can come later, or never, depending on how you actually trade.
- Check what arrives on SundayA summary of the week comes by SMS. If it does not match what you think happened, that gap is the most useful thing you will read all week.
Why trust us with it this time
A fair question, and the honest answer is that you should not take our word for it. Everything you record can be exported to a spreadsheet whenever you like, the free plan has no time limit and needs no card, and your records stay if you stop paying. Those are the terms that make leaving cheap — which is the only real protection any of us can offer you.
