Terms of service
The agreement between your shop and MyKanti — what you pay, what we promise, what we do not, and how either side can walk away. Written to be understood without a lawyer beside you.
The short version
Ledger is free and stays free. Paid plans renew until you cancel, and cancelling never deletes your records — you drop back to Ledger with your history intact.
What you record is yours. Export it whenever you want. We do not own it and we will not publish it.
Reminders are sent on your instruction. You confirm the numbers and the amounts are right, and you stop messaging anyone who asks you to.
MyKanti is a record book, not an accountant. Its reports are only as good as what you entered, and they are not audited accounts.
This summary is here to be read. It is not a substitute for the clauses below, which are what actually applies.
01
Who this agreement is between
These terms are between you — the person or business using MyKanti — and MyKanti Technologies Ltd. (RC 0000000), registered in Nigeria at [Registered office address], Lagos, Nigeria. They cover the MyKanti mobile app, this website, and anything else we provide as part of the service.
You accept them by creating an account or using the service. If you are setting the app up on behalf of a business, you are confirming you are allowed to accept them for that business.
They work alongside our Privacy policy, which explains what we do with the data you enter. Where the two documents overlap, the Privacy policy governs data protection questions.
02
Who can use MyKanti
You must be at least 18 and using MyKanti to run a real business. The service is designed and sold for business record-keeping in Nigeria; we do not offer it as a personal budgeting tool, and we make no claim that it complies with the law of any other country.
One account represents one business. The number of shops and staff logins you may attach to it depends on your plan.
03
Your account, your PIN, your staff
You sign in with your phone number and a 4-digit PIN. There is no password to forget, which also means your PIN and your phone number are the whole of your security. Keep the PIN to yourself, and do not use an obvious one.
- You are responsible for what happens under your account, including everything your staff do with the logins you issue them.
- Give each member of staff their own login. Sharing one login defeats the record of who entered what, and makes disputes impossible to settle.
- Tell us immediately if you lose your phone or think someone else has your PIN — WhatsApp 0800 000 0000 is fastest. We will sign that device out.
- Keep your phone number current with us. It is how you sign in, how you recover access, and where your one-time codes go.
04
Plans, payment and renewal
MyKanti is sold on three plans — Ledger, Kanti and Kanti+. Current prices and what each includes are on the pricing page, which forms part of these terms.
- Ledger is free. No time limit, no card. If it is enough for your shop, stay on it.
- Paid plans are billed monthly or yearlyin advance, in Naira. Yearly is charged at ten months’ rate.
- Trials. Where we offer a free trial of a paid plan, we say how long it runs. If you saved a card, the plan renews at the end of the trial unless you cancel before it ends.
- Renewal. Paid plans renew automatically for the same period until you cancel. We will remind you before a yearly renewal is taken.
- How you can pay. Card, bank transfer, USSD, or cash to a MyKanti agent who activates the plan for you.
Included messages, and messages beyond them
Paid plans include a monthly allowance of SMS reminders. WhatsApp reminders are free and are attempted first where the number supports them. Once the allowance is used, further SMS are charged at the per-message rate shown on the pricing page. Unused allowance does not roll over.
05
Cancelling, refunds, and what happens to your records
You can cancel at any time from the app. Cancelling stops the next charge; it does not end the period you have already paid for, and you keep the paid features until that period runs out.
Nothing is deleted when you stop paying. You drop back to the free Ledger plan. Your books, your credit list and your history stay exactly where they are. What switches off are the paid features — automatic reminders, item-level stock, extra staff logins, extra shops — until you resume.
Refunds: if you cancel a yearly plan within 14 days of the charge and have not used a paid feature in that period, tell us and we will refund it. Beyond that we do not refund part-used periods, except where the service was materially unavailable through our fault or where Nigerian consumer law entitles you to one.
If you want to leave entirely, export your records first — PDF and Excel on the paid plans — then ask us to close the account. Deletion follows the timetable in the Privacy policy.
06
Your records are yours
Everything you enter into MyKanti belongs to you. We claim no ownership of it. You give us permission to store, process, back up and display it only so far as is needed to run the service for you, to keep it safe, and to support you when you ask — nothing else.
We will not use your business figures to train products for other people, or publish anything identifiable about your shop, without asking you first. Aggregate statistics that cannot identify you or your shop — how many shops close their book before 9pm, for instance — may be used to improve the service and to describe the market generally.
07
Reminders, and your customers
When you switch reminders on you are instructing us to send messages to your customers on your behalf, in your shop’s name, using wording you approved. That instruction carries obligations you should be clear about.
- You confirm the numbers you enter are correct and that you are entitled to contact the person on them about the debt.
- You confirm the amounts are accurate. We send what your book says; we do not verify the debt and we cannot arbitrate a dispute about it.
- You must stop messaging a customer who asks you to stop. Remove the number from their record — the balance stays, the messaging ends.
- Reminders are for debts owed to you. Using them for advertising, or to message people who owe you nothing, is a breach of these terms and we will switch the feature off.
- Delivery depends on networks and on WhatsApp. We cannot guarantee a message arrives, or when.
For data-protection purposes you are the controller of your customers’ details and we are your processor. See section 06 of the Privacy policy.
08
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use MyKanti for anything illegal, or to record or facilitate fraud, money laundering, or trade in goods you may not lawfully sell;
- enter someone else’s personal data without a lawful reason to hold it;
- harass, threaten or defame anyone through the messages we send for you;
- resell, sublicense or white-label the service without our written agreement — our agent and partner programme exists for that, and is on the agents page;
- attempt to break, overload, scrape or reverse-engineer the service, or get at another shop’s data;
- impersonate another business, or use a shop name you have no right to.
09
Availability, offline working and corrections
MyKanti is built to work offline: entries save on your phone and sync when signal returns. Reminders and one-time codes are the exception — they need a network to leave the device.
We aim to keep the service running at all times, but we do not promise uninterrupted availability. We will carry out planned maintenance at quiet hours and warn you where we reasonably can.
Closed days can be corrected within the window your plan allows — the same day on Ledger, seven days on the paid plans. A correction never overwrites history silently: the app keeps what the day said before, and who changed it.
10
What MyKanti is not
MyKanti is a record-keeping tool. It is not an accountant, not a tax adviser, and not a lawyer, and nothing it produces is professional advice.
- Your reports are built from what you entered. If the entries are wrong or incomplete, the answers will be too.
- Our summaries are not audited accounts and are not prepared to any accounting standard. Do not file them as though they were.
- We are not a bank and we do not hold your money. We do not lend, and a “loan-ready summary” is a document you may choose to show a lender — it is not an application, an offer, or any promise that credit will follow.
- Meeting your tax and regulatory obligations remains yours to do.
11
Third-party services
Payments, SMS and WhatsApp delivery are handled by third parties. Their own terms apply to their part of the job, and an outage or a decision on their side can affect what MyKanti can do — a carrier that drops a message, or a payment processor that declines a card, is outside our control. We choose these providers carefully and hold them to written agreements, but we are not responsible for their acts beyond that.
12
Our software stays ours
The MyKanti app, this website, our name, our logo and the design of the product are ours and remain ours. You get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use them while your account is open and these terms are kept. Nothing here transfers ownership of anything to you, and nothing here takes ownership of your records away from you.
13
Liability
We will provide the service with reasonable care and skill. Beyond that, and to the extent Nigerian law allows us to say so, the service is provided as it is, without further warranty.
We are not liable for business losses — lost profit, lost sales, lost goodwill — or for a debt a customer does not pay you, whether or not a reminder reached them. Where we are liable, our total liability to you in any twelve-month period is limited to what you paid us in that period, or ₦50,000 if you are on the free plan.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited — including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.
You agree to cover us against claims brought by a third party — most obviously one of your customers — that arise because you entered data you had no right to hold, sent messages you were asked to stop sending, or otherwise broke these terms.
14
Suspension and ending the agreement
You can stop using MyKanti whenever you like, and ask us to close your account.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, that is being used to harm someone, or where we are required to by law. Except where the breach is serious or we have no lawful choice, we will warn you first and give you a chance to put it right. If we close your account for a reason that is not your fault, we will refund the unused part of anything you have paid.
However the agreement ends, you keep the right to export your records for 30 days afterwards, and the retention rules in the Privacy policy govern what happens to them next.
15
Changes to these terms or to prices
We may update these terms as the product changes or the law does. For anything that materially affects you — a price rise, a reduction in what a plan includes, a new limit — we will give you at least 30 days’ notice in the app and by message, and you may cancel before it takes effect. A price already paid for a period is not changed mid-period. Small corrections take effect when posted here, with the date at the top updated.
16
Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and the Nigerian courts have jurisdiction.
Before anyone goes to court, talk to us — most disputes are a misunderstanding about a figure and are settled in a WhatsApp conversation. If we cannot resolve it within 30 days of you raising it in writing, either of us may take it further.
If any clause here turns out to be unenforceable, the rest stands.
